Sun TV Family feud: Dayanidhi Maran MP, DMK, issues legal notice to his billionaire brother Kalanithi Maran


A legal notice has been served by former Union Minister and DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran to his brother Kalanithi, which raises a family feud among the proprietors of the Sun TV Network Limited which is one of the largest media networks in India.


The notice is based on an allegation that Kalanithi Maran, a billionaire brother of Dayanidhi Maran, the chairman of the Chennai based media conglomerate, indulged in what the latter terms as an act of fraudulent practices by enaging in practices such as cheating and money laundering.

It also calls to restore the existing shareholding structure of the company to that obtained in 2003 including legacy of their deceased father SN Maran (better known as Murasoli Maran) and wife MK Dayalu of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.


The notice dated 10 June 2025, was addressed to Kalanithi Maran and other seven respondents including his wife Kaveri Maran.


K Suresh of Law Dharma which is a research based litigation support firm with office in Santhome, Chennai has served the legal notice.


Moneycontrol has the copy of the notice and has contacted the Maran brothers to give their reaction by email, call and message.  They will be responded to in case they respond. Sun TV and K Suresh who is the lawyer of Dayanidhi Maran, did not comment when queried.


To secure entire firm and the assets of the company to the selfish greed and personal interest of No.1 and No.2 of you, (Kalanithi and Kaveri Maran) No.1 of you engineered a bogus and despicable plot in connivance with No.2 to 8 of you. The notice starts by saying: As part of carrying out your pre-planned fraudulent scheme and in taking unfair advantage of the circumstances of the family particularly when the health of my client father was in critical state, you may die anytime, and the whole family was worried about his ill health, No.1 of you of you and No.2 of you began your first unlawful act in September 2003.
